Wisdom of a Falling Leaf
Share
As I was strolling down the sidewalk, meandering and daydreaming, I noticed one sole leaf release its grip on the branch it had always known as home, and twirling, cascading into a pile of leaves at the foot of the tree. That got me thinking...
What an simple, but beautiful existence!
Each leaf is distinct from every other. It is silent and non-violent. It grows according to its nature, then releases its life and falls without resistance to disintegrate and nourish the earth.
I, on the other hand, grasp and seek to take up space. I jockey for position and make my presence known. I maneuver for maximum comfort and benefit. To my credit, the human existence is meant to be unlike that of a plant, but maybe there is some kernel of wisdom to learn from the life's journey of the falling leaf.
I found it cathartic and heartening to pen this poem and to create this poetry art print. It serves as an ode to the leaf that taught me a poignant lesson. And, hopefully, it will bring grace and beauty to our hearts and homes.
