Time to Level Up: When Discomfort Is Trying to Tell You Something

Time to Level Up
I feel like I’m a stranger in my cookie cutter life.
What used to be a source of comfort now just brings me strife.
I don’t belong in my old job; it bothers me no end
I can’t abide relationship with my “so called” best friend.
My finance situation, just can’t continue on.
I’m sick of being broke and bills persist when money’s gone.
A wonderful epiphany just dropped into my soul.
Discomfort is the signal sent to make what’s broken, whole.
Allow my disappointments and my pains to point the way
To every stinking change I should have made, like, yesterday.
Today’s the day I’ll inventory what I think I lack.
Tomorrow, guaranteed, you know I’m getting my groove back.
There comes a moment in life when the things that once felt safe begin to feel painfully small. The poem I wrote entitled, "Time to Level Up" explores this idea of outgrowing our comfortable lives.
The job you settled into because it paid the bills.
The friendships that survive mostly out of history.
The routines that look “normal” from the outside but quietly drain you from within.
You wake up one day and realize you’ve become a stranger in your own life.
It’s unsettling. Sometimes embarrassing. Sometimes terrifying.
But it’s also sacred.
Because discomfort is often the first signal that growth is knocking.
We spend so much energy trying to numb discomfort, avoid it, rationalize it, or push through it. We tell ourselves to be grateful. To stop complaining. To stay practical. To keep the peace.
But what if your dissatisfaction isn’t the problem?
What if it’s the invitation?
The truth is, most breakthroughs don’t begin with confidence. They begin with friction.
That restless feeling in your spirit.
That exhaustion you can’t quite explain.
That sense that your current life no longer fits the person you’re becoming.
Those feelings aren’t random. They’re information.
Discomfort has a way of illuminating what comfort allowed us to ignore.
Sometimes it reveals that we’ve outgrown a career.
Sometimes it exposes unhealthy relationships.
Sometimes it forces us to confront financial habits, limiting beliefs, or ways we’ve abandoned ourselves just to survive.
And while those realizations can feel overwhelming, they also contain tremendous power.
Because awareness changes everything.
You cannot transform what you refuse to acknowledge.
The beautiful thing about a personal reckoning is that it clears the fog. Suddenly, what once felt confusing becomes obvious. You begin to see exactly where your energy leaks, where your integrity bends, and where your life no longer aligns with your soul.
That clarity is not punishment.
It’s direction.
Real change starts when we stop pretending things are “fine.”
It starts when we take inventory of our lives with honesty instead of shame.
What feels empty?
What feels forced?
What keeps hurting?
What keeps repeating?
What have you tolerated for far too long?
These questions are not meant to break you down.
They are meant to wake you up.
Leveling up isn’t about becoming someone entirely new. It’s about returning to the truest version of yourself — the version buried underneath fear, people-pleasing, burnout, and survival mode.
And no, transformation doesn’t happen overnight.
But the moment you stop lying to yourself, everything begins to shift.
One honest conversation.
One boundary.
One financial decision.
One brave admission.
One new habit.
One act of self-respect at a time.
Momentum builds from truth.
So if life feels uncomfortable right now, don’t rush to escape the feeling. Sit with it long enough to hear what it’s trying to say.
Your discomfort may be the very thing guiding you toward healing, alignment, freedom, and a more authentic life.
This might be your time to level up. You do not have to evolve alone. In fact, you're not meant to.
Face what’s true.
Use your authentic voice to speak it out loud to yourself and a trusted friend.
And anchor yourself in supportive community while you make the changes your soul has been asking for.
Let expansion usher you into your next level and beyond.
