Home Becomes Poetic

I've been thinking about what makes a house a home... the people, the furniture, the neighborhood. All of these things contribute greatly. And, the single greatest element I think makes a home is... the vibe. I think I love making poetry art so much because it's the best home decor I can think of to set a supremely delightful vibe.

To me, home is a sanctuary, a place of respite, a place to be strengthened and re-invigorated for re-emergence into the outside world. How do we get our homes to feel this way? I have found three key ways to make home a sanctuary:

1. Activate the senses. When I an intentional about feeding each of my senses, I create a luxurious and satisfying vibe at home:

  • Sights. Do you love what you see when you look around? Do you consider the items in your home beautiful?
  • Sounds. Accessorize the air at home with captivating music or soundscapes that uplift the heart and sooth the mind
  • Smells. Room fragrance, incense, scented candles all contribute to a lovely environment
  • Taste. Do you enjoy cooking or baking? Maybe try some new recipes to bring novelty and interest to your sense of taste as a wonderful treat.
  • Touch. I love to add plush pillows and throw blankets, and other items that are warm and snuggly to the touch.

Together, feeding all of the senses makes for a more refreshing and fulfilling home environment that nurtures the soul.

2. Uplift the mindset. In addition to lovely physical surroundings, I love to cultivate the inner landscape of the heart and mind:

  • Artwork. In addition to beautiful art, why not feed your mindset with art prints that hold a positive vibe.
  • Pillows. Decorative pillows with uplifting messages can interrupt a negative train of thought and reset our minds in a more positive direction.
  • Books. The wisdom we gain from reading inspiring and edifying books can transform us and allow us to thrive. And no one can take away what we gain from and education.
  • Audio and Physical Notes. Any reminders of what we want our minds to dwell on is a great addition to our physical dwelling.

Basking in inspiring and affirming spaces allows us to train our minds to focus on the positive over the negative and what is wanted rather than what is unwanted

3. Thrive in supportive community. There's nothing like the power of loving friends and family to feel and strengthen our hearts. Home can be the center of a supportive community:

  • Hold the vibe. The more we can maintain our own positive attitude, the more we can influence those around us to rise above other things.
  • Find a tribe. If you live alone or with others who are not quite so positive, how about finding a circle of friends who can talk to by phone, videoconference, or inviting them over to grace your lovely abode?
  • Make a change. If you have toxic influences tarnishing your home environment or destroying your inner world, then maybe it's time to thinking about taking decisive action to improve things so that tomorrow can be better.

I am so heartened by how much power and self-determination we have into how lovely our home can be. In fact, the first two elements (activating the senses and uplifting the mindset) are completely within our own control and  we can contribute much to co-creating the third (creating supportive community).

I invite you to enjoy reading the poem Welcome Home anytime you would like to evoke the feeling of a beautiful home in your heart. And, if you find it uplifting, then you can purchase your very own print for your home space as well.

Here's to harmonious and heavenly homes,
